Wauconda is a village with approximately 15,000 residents in Lake County. It is home to the Wauconda Bog Nature Preserve, which is a National Natural Landmark. In 1948, the first house was built next to it, which was later named after Justus Bangs, as in Bangs Lake.
The Village was organized and its first town meeting took place in 1850. Wauconda received notoriety when the movie, The Blues Brothers, had a scene filmed there. And again, when the movie, Black Panther was released. It was during the running of Black Panther that Wauconda was pranked with phone calls because of the fictitious country of Wakanda, which is the main location setting in the movie.
